After two unsuccessful years trying to enter the SPL it was finally possible to put together a team mostly thanks to Gary Skidmore bringing his team to Byfleet and the interest around this, the original six players were joined by a new group of lads who had the same ambition to be part of a team playing Sunday morning football and we became “Byfleet Whites”. After playing a couple of seeding matches we were placed in Division 5 and initially found things difficult competing against teams with more playing experience, however we showed great courage and determination in each game still creating and scoring goals. It was very difficult maintaining a fixed line up and all players had to adjust to fill different positions on the pitch and all did this to there best ability, on occasions we were unable to field a full team and at an away game in Aldershot we started with 8 players, reduced to 7 by half time through injury but still only narrowly lost the match against a team of 11. Despite losing the match on the day we were the real winners and were applauded from the pitch at the final whistle by everyone present. Now the season is over we can use what we’ve learned over the last few months to carry on into the next and concentrate on moving forward, many thanks to all the players for their commitment and parents for their support throughout our first season, come on you Whites!
