The boys that joined the group in September 2006, had, in the main, the usual range of uncertainty and apprehension as any group would when confronted with an unfamiliar game to play. But as each Saturday's training was
completed we could see individuals starting to get the hang of the basics, and skills starting to be developed. We were very lucky with the weather in the first 3-4 months and the training sessions progressed well. After the New Year, a core group of 12 or so lads started to emerge with increasing confidence, skill, eagerness to play and more importantly compete.
Our first 'test of the team' was a friendly match against Chertsey in March, which despite appalling weather, did not dampen their spirits and they went on to win the match and the following friendly against Egham. The next 2 matches were not that kind, and we lost them. But many of the boys learnt from these results and in our first tournament (at Mayford) we came joint first, before losing a tie breaker to finish up in second place out of 5. A super experience for the boys.
Each training match and friendly game highlights their
desire to play and bad results have not dampened their
eagerness to do well. We have a great squad of boys who can only get stronger, quicker and better. They are developing very nicely as a team and with good fortune will be a great credit to BVFC for some years to come.
